September Birthstone: Sapphire

The birthstone for the month of September is Sapphire.

This gemstone is one of the rarest gemstones on the planet. It comes in a variety of Colours. There are purple, yellow, pink, even green coloured sapphires, yet the royal blue colour is the favourite to most.

Kashmir, Myanmar and Sri Lanka are the three historically important sources of this gemstone. Significant quantities have also been found in Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Madagascar, Kenya and the United States (Montana). Guess what? Nigeria is on this list of key sapphire sources which have economically viable sapphire trades.

Sapphire has adorned royalty and the robes of the clergy. Traditionally, a favourite stone of kings and priests. This gemstone symbolizes PURITY and WISDOM. It’s believed that this gemstone guards against evil and poisoning. It also represents LOYALTY and TRUST.
